  • Liver function test - also known as liver panel or liver enzyme test, is a blood test that measures various substances and enzymes in the blood to assess the overall function and health of the liver
  • Liver biopsy – a procedure in which a small sample of liver tissue is removed and examined under a microscope to diagnose liver disease
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) – uses a special endoscope to examine and treat problems in the bile and pancreatic ducts
  • Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) – a procedure that creates a shunt between the portal vein and the hepatic vein to treat complications of cirrhosis, such as portal hypertension
  • Paracentesis – involves the removal of fluid from the abdominal cavity in patients with ascites
  • Oesophageal banding – uses a special device to place bands around oesophageal varices to prevent them from bleeding
  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) – a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat energy to destroy cancerous liver tissue
