Paediatric Surgery is a subspecialty of surgery. Like paediatricians, who specialise in the care of babies, infants and children, a paediatric surgeon also has special expertise in treating a wide variety of surgical conditions commonly seen in babies, infants and children.
Such conditions may include common conditions such as hydroceles, inguinal hernias and undescended testes, but also includes a wide range of “birth defects” such as hypospadias, Hirschsprung’s disease, and rarer conditions such as choledochal cysts (a serious abnormality of the liver and bile duct) and complex surgical conditions of the bladder and kidney, such as hydronephrosis and duplex kidneys. Paediatric surgeons are also specially trained in the aftercare of small babies and children.
Prince court has three sessional paediatric surgeons; Dr Syariz Izry Sehat, Dr Zuraidah Ibrahim and Dr Nada Sudhakaran, who are experts in managing the whole range of simple right through to very complex children’s surgical conditions.
